Human club cell protein (CC16, CC10) has been proposed as a potential peripheral marker for respiratory epithelial injury and bronchial dysfunction. In serum, its increase is related to age, asbestos, nitrogen chloride and ozone exposure, sarcoidosis and high PEEP ventilation. After lung resection, the levels of serum CC16 in workers exposed to silica, smokers and asthmatic patients decreased. In the amniotic fluid of fetuses with lung hypoplasia caused by various mechanisms, CC16 concentration was also found to be reduced.
