CD22, also known as BL-CAM (b lymphocyte adhesion molecule), is a 130-140kda b cell restricted type I transmembrane glycoprotein, which belongs to the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. The expression of CD22 is regulated by development. It is expressed at low levels in the cytoplasm of pre-b cells and pre-b cells, and only appears on the cell surface at the mature stage of b cell differentiation. The cell surface expression disappeared after the final stage of differentiation into plasma cells and b-cell activation. CD22 is an inhibitory receptor of B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling, and it plays a key role in the activation and differentiation of B-cells.
