BRCA1 plays a central role in DNA repair by promoting the cell's response to DNA repair. BRCA1-BARD1 heterodimer coordinates a variety of cellular pathways, such as DNA damage repair, ubiquitination and transcriptional regulation, to maintain genome stability. BRCA1 acts by mediating the ubiquitin E3 ligase activity required for its tumor suppressor function. It participates in the transcriptional regulation of P21 in response to DNA damage. BRCA1 is required for FANCD2 to target DNA damage sites. It may play a role in transcriptional regulation. BRCA1 inhibits lipid synthesis by binding to inactive phosphorylated ACACA and preventing its dephosphorylation. The antibody is specific for BRCA1. BRCA1 seems to produce multiple splice variants.
