The gene encodes a member of the BCL7 family, including BCL7A, BCL7B and BCL7C proteins, and it contains a region that is highly similar to the n-terminus of the BCL7A or BCL7C protein. The gene encoding BCL7A protein is known to be directly involved in the three-way gene translocation of Burkitt lymphoma cell line. The gene is located in a chromosomal region that is usually missing in Williams syndrome. From Caenorhabditis elegans to humans, this gene is highly conserved. Multiple alternatively spliced transcriptional variants have been discovered for this gene.
