This gene encodes a complete mitochondrial outer membrane protein, which can prevent lymphocytes and other cells from apoptosis. Constitutive expression of BCL2, such as the translocation of BCL2 to the Ig heavy chain site, is considered to be the cause of follicular lymphoma. The c-terminals of the two transcripts produced by alternate splicing are different.
