B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2L1) is a member of the BCL-2 protein family. BCL2L1 is expressed in two different subtypes, Bcl-xL and Bcl-xS, located outside the mitochondrial membrane. The Bcl-XL subtype is a protein containing 233 amino acids and is an inhibitor of apoptosis. Bcl-XL can form heterodimers with BAX, BAK or BCL2, while the heterodimers with BAX do not seem to have anti-apoptotic activity. The Bcl-XS isoform is a shorter variant with a length of 178 amino acids and lacks a 63 amino acid region (amino acids 126-188), which acts as an apoptosis activator. The antibody can recognize Bcl-XL, Bcl-XS and Bcl-X (Beta).
