ALKBH3 is a dioxygenase that mediates the demethylation of DNA and RNA containing 1-methyl ladenosine (m1A). It has a strong preference for single chains. ALKBH3 requires molecular oxygen, -ketoglutarate and iron. The gene has subtypes with molecular weights of 19-25 kDa and 33 kDa.
