Radioimmunoassay quantitatively determines the blocking autoantibodies against acetylcholine receptors in human serum. Blocking RIA by ARAb helps in the differential diagnosis of myasthenia gravis (MG). Three types of antibodies against acetylcholine receptors with different functions can be detected in patients with MG: receptor binding, blocking and modulating antibodies. Related to blocking antibodies, there is a significant correlation between the degree of acetylcholine receptor blockade and the prevalence of muscle weakness.
