ABL1 proto-oncogene encodes a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein tyrosine kinase that is involved in cell differentiation, cell division, cell adhesion, and stress response. The activity of c-Abl protein is negatively regulated by its SH3 domain, and the deletion of SH3 domain makes ABL1 become an oncogene. The ABL1 gene is present in many cases of chronic myeloid leukemia.
